Some people have probably seen the problems I've been having working the editer, but this is just to let everyone know that I am stil extremely happy with T2002.
The graphical feel and of course music and atmosphere are very juch the stuff of the original turrican II, though some of the level designs (I'm thinking particularly of Levl 2 here), make me think of the Original turrican as well.
when I first played the Turrican games, I was not able to take into account things like enemy placement and collision dectection, but both of these areas in T2002 are flawless (I particularly like the way you can stand extremely close to an enemy and yet not be danaged).
The level design is brilliant, truly confusing and full of secrets, and as a long time Metroid player it's particularly nice to discover them. One thing the Editer has done for me is give me save states, which is good because the levels are truly huge! I was quite surprised to go through what I thought was the exit from the first level of turrican II, to find at least one and a half more levels wworth of play space left to be explored.
Perhaps my only real cryticism is time outs, unless I really really rush through the levels i find myself losing lots of lives to time, while this is probably just a consequence of me wanting to explore every single cavern a bit too slowly, the ability to turn off the time would be handy, though off course this could just be me complaining at game dificulty!
All in all a superb job, it's wonderful to play Turrican again and I think there are even some improvements on the original here as far as length of levels go!
I can't wait for the Gba version (will it work with the Gba player?), and am also looking forward to any future updates. |
